There is so much conflicting information out there on how to tone up, get rid of stubborn belly fat, cellulite off your legs, and how to get the body you want, it's hard to know who or what to trust.


That's why the best thing you can always do is look for the more qualified professionals in the field, that typically share evidence-based practices. That means that there is scientific research backing a certain piece of information or method.


Below are 4 of the biggest reasons why most diets and fitness programs just haven't worked for you long term. If you've tried and failed to lose fat and tone up in the past, then chances are it was because of 1 or more of these 4.


 


METABOLIC ADAPTATION


If you've been dieting or restricting your calories for a long time, then chances are your body has undergone what's called "metabolic adaptation".


It's one of your body's physiological survival mechanisms that has been observed time and time again in research (Trexler et al., 2014) ,(Leibel et al., 1995) ,(Muir, 2022).


When you've been restricting your calorie intake for a long time, your body adjusts its basal metabolic rate downward to suit the amount of food available, your energy will drop, so you will be moving around less without even noticing, you'll feel weaker during exercise sessions, and you won’t be able to train at your optimal intensity. This essentially means that you need to be eating less and less every week in order to keep seeing results 🫠




RESTRICTION FUELS OBSESSION


Have you ever tried a really restrictive diet, or a diet that cuts out an entire food group, like keto or vegan? If so, what was the first thing you did when you gave yourself permission to eat what you want again?


If you're anything like I was, you likely couldn't stop thinking about the favourite foods you were missing out on, until you ate a whole cupboard-load of it.


Restrained eating actually increases the likelihood of "motivated overeating" (Trexler et al., 2014) ,(Leibel et al., 1995) ,(Muir, 2022).

Most restrictive diets, meal plans, challenges and even coaches definitely don't take this into account.




NO PERSONALISED/BAD ADVICE


There are lots of cookie cutter programs that try everything they can to provide options for as many people as they can, but the truth is, if you don't fall within "the average person" picture that they are catering for, the advice is not going to work very well for you. If you're here, chances are you've probably tried at least one of these and know exactly what I mean.

This is the single most important factor seperating success and failure, and 99% of programs never even address this.
